The Story: Whiting & Davis collaborated with Vogue, Twentieth Century Fox, and several other high-end designers and promoted the film Cleopatra starring Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton. Whiting & Davis also launched the Cleopatra Collection inspired by Cleopatra's dramatic accessories for the woman daring to "dress in an exciting mood, to be a femme fatale, provocative but discreet." The Collection included serpent bracelets, earrings, necklaces, and jeweled pins with real stone representatives of the Egyptian period.
Whiting & Davis Co. began as a chain manufacturing company in 1876. In 1907 CW. Whiting became the new owner and became famous for their mesh metal handbags, accessories and in the 1950's their costume jewelry. In 1991 they stopped production of their costume jewelry, but continue to manufacture mesh metal items.
